First 24 hours in Chicago: Drove straight to Arturo’s for our traditional midnight meal of Mexican food. Slept in really, really late and woke up with no idea what time it was, since switching time zones coincided with the start of Daylight Saving Time. Puttered around Lakeview. Acquired violet lipstick and a latte. Chatted with several voluble Chicagoans about tomorrow’s heat-wave high in the 50s. Headed over to Logan Square for dinner and, after one bite, became obsessed with the ridiculously delicious seitan tacos at La Cocina. Attended the screening of “Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton,” where we spotted Stones Throw Records founder Peanut Butter Wolf. Discussed the documentary over ice cream with the two smartest men I know. And now I’m back at the hotel, plotting tomorrow’s adventures.
